NSW: At Home With the Architect Visits Castlecrag

 1707 a0

This months NSW At Home with the Architect, takes place on Sunday 30 July, visiting a new home in Castlecrag, designed by Porebski Architects.

Designed to respond to its location within the Walter Burley Griffin conservation area, the Castlecrag residence has been conceived as a twenty-first century reinterpretation of houses designed by Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin.

The brief for the architects was to design a home that would comfortably accommodate a multi-generational family. The original childhood residence of one of the owners, was demolished to build a residence that would more suitably address the north - south orientation of the property and maximise access to natural light in the living areas, while maintaining privacy from the surrounding neighbours.

The final result is a house with strong horizonal forms that sits on a stone podium and has a centralised courtyard. The palette of materials is kept restrained, utilising concrete brick, off-form concrete, timber and copper.
